UK designer Gareth Pugh delivered a collection of Jacobean spacewomen in Paris for pret-a-porter week. Pugh was able to show in Paris thanks to the
ANDAM Fashion Award, worth 150,000 Euros.
While Pugh's last collection was heavy on the black, this collection for summer 2009 makes more use of white, highlighting each piece with black to create an optical illusion of scale and size.
Pret-a-porter literally means ready to wear, so while the collection is inspiring and exciting, it's not immediately clear how many customers will be lining up to wear enormous ruffled collars, stegasaurus-style breast plates and quilted shields.
That said, these exercises in creativity were complemented by some very saucy and wearable pieces, such as the cap-shouldered mini-dress, white PVC leggings with origami folds, a power-shouldered frock coat and a delicately ruffled overcoat with Kylie-style hood.
This is the future, after all, and weren't we all meant to be wearing just this as we hover-boarded to work in the new millenium?
