You'd better hope that you have nothing planned this weekend. Because every self-respecting Australian with an appreciation for the absurd should be glued to their TV screen for the next three nights.
The nice people at SBS are broadcasting the first semi-final of the
Eurovision song contest tonight (Friday) at 19:30 (AEST), followed later in the evening by a documentary on the rapid rise and fall of Jon Noergaard, winner of the 2002 Danish Pop Star talent series. Then later that night, another screening of the Norwegian mockumentary movie
Get Ready To Be Boyzvoiced.
The second semi-final will be broadcast on Saturday (May 24) at 19:30 (AEST), followed by
ABBA: The Movie - the 1977 film made during the group's tour of Australia.
The
Eurovision final will be broadcast on Sunday (May 25) starting at 19:30
(AEST). Later in the evening, SBS will present a
repeat screening of the documentary
Finland, Zero
Points which follows Finland's journey in the Eurovision Song Contest
culminating in Helsinki hosting the 2007 contest.
So, clear your weekend schedule, buy yourself a bottle of schnapps and some kransky and get set for a healthy dose of eurotrash.
In the meantime, check out the photos (below) of this year's contestants. Pay special attention to the cleavage on the woman in front of Ruslan Alehno of Belarus.
And PLEASE do yourself a favour and check out this clip of Spain's entrant, Rodolfo Chikilicuatre:
