Watch: 'Star Drunk', a sci-fi short acted by drunk people

Drinking makes bad ideas seem like incredible ones. Doing a backflip off the couch. Trying to do a pushup with one hand while holding a White Russian in the other. Making out with a co-worker. Rarely has a drunken idea been executed as flawlessly as this.

Star Drunk, "a film by drunk people," began as an experiment by a team of writers from Portland to get hammered and see what came out of it. "We promised each other that whatever we wrote that night, we'd produce as a short film," says Star Drunk writer/director Chris R Wilson. The result is a mish-mash of references to modern sci-fi classics like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly... if all of those shows starred really, really drunk people.

It's hard to tell whether this is a world first. You have to imagine that in the (allegedly) coke-fuelled corridors of Hollywood, many a film has been influenced in every aspect by the consumption of something bad for you. It's just that Star Drunk is unapologetic. No, not just unapologetic - damn proud.

Watch Star Drunk below, and remember: Drink responsibly and never pilot spacecraft while intoxicated. If you drink and fly, you're a bloody idiot.

Great premise, but that guy playing the captain really, really ruined it for me.

First thing I thought of, "What an interesting premise for a sci fi short, I need to buy some shoes".

Now I'm off to eat my lunch, which kinda sux,, cause Mum says she gives me ham sandwiches, but I know it's that fake stuff,.

Oh and I'll buy a pair of Reeboks. Um, you said any form of payment, so I got, um, this string, this shiny red rock I found, and this catseye marble

This was a reply to someone who tried to span the comments by advertising shoes (since moderated). Just in case anyone thought I was getting into the spirit of the movie and drink commenting : )

No we appreciate your commitment to engaging with spammers OscarTheMild. There's now probably a very happy robot somewhere deep below a car park on the fringes of Singapore.
