Putting a sex scene on film feels like a no brainer, after all porn directors and home video enthusiasts have been doing it for decades. Seriously, how much talent is required to turn on a camera and point it at the bed or copulating area of choice?
Clearly, this is an underrated skill as there are some notable film making efforts that shatter this simplistic logic. Unfortunately, sex scenes have become a montage of grunts and thrusts that have a prerequisite song in the background, preferably something with a saxophone.
Every so often directors and screenwriters feel like getting creative and start using their imagination. What we are left with as a viewing audience are strange and somewhat disturbing scenes devoid of any sexuality or eroticism and simply present what are some deeply unresolved issues for the filmmakers.
We have compiled a top ten list of the weirdest sex scenes in Hollywood movies. We are in no way passing judgment on the private lives of these fictional characters but clearly wonder why anyone felt the urge to forever immortalise these images on celluloid.
As I’m sure this is somewhat obvious, some of the clips are not suitable for viewing in the workplace.
10. Alone in the Dark Weird on so many levels. From song choice '7 Seconds', a song about world violence and poverty, to the fact that Tara Reid keeps her bra on throughout the shenanigans. It seems she’s willing to give it away for free at red carpet events but draws the line with film.
9. Alien Resurrection The final nail in the coffin for the series. Ripley, who at this stage is half alien half human, decides to get it on with the Queen Alien and the result is a child with a face that only a mother could love. The sex scene itself is a bizarre montage of alien limbs and Ripley rolling around.
8. Demolition Man If this is the future of sex I’d rather just end it all now.
