It's obvious from the reaction to the news that LucasArts is remaking The Secret of Monkey Island that many gamers here at The Vine desperately miss the hilarity, wonderful dialogue and crazy puzzles of the classic point and click adventure games of yesteryear.
Sierra's Space Quest, King's Quest and Leisure Suit Larry games are still fondly remembered today, and so is the best of the early LucasArts era, like Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max and Full Throttle. Perhaps if the Monkey Island remake is a huge success, more developers might consider the point-and-click genre is worth another look.
Today I thought I could give you another chance to reminisce and ask about what other relics from gaming's yesteryear that you now miss.
How about those large, beautifully illustrated game boxes that were once a pleasure to display, and contained heaps of goodies instead to discover, rather than just a disc? Or do you mourn the loss of limited lives in platform games?
Do you think someone should start making auto-fire joysticks again? Or secretly yearn for the days when you had to load games from cassette? Do you pine for a return to the days when Sonic was a genuine rival to Mario rather than the washed up has-been he is today? Or do you wish that Duke Nukem could once again rule the roost?
What do you miss?
