Victoria’s Black Saturday may seem in the past for all of us who are not located in the affected regions. But for those people who lost their towns, homes and loved ones, it is very much a part of the present. Some towns (like Marysville) have barely even begun to clean up / demolish yet. A drive down what was their main drag is a haunting drive indeed.
A month or so ago I got a text message from Anthony Mapstone asking if I would join some of Australia’s best skaters in a voluntary demo for the people of Marysville / Buxton. It was to be a part of Buxton’s “New Life Festival”. Anthony always seems to be organizing something amazing, but this was truly next level! The plan was for us all to have a 10:30am meet up at City Park, we would drive out there and skate with the locals and give them loads of product. Shoes, boards, DVDs, clothes, you name it they would all be getting something. There was no skatepark out there, so some of use also took our own obstacles (thanks to Dean Finch, Aladdin and any other of the ramp carters). Pro photographer I am not, but I took my trusty little happy snap along and captured a few images that I’d like to share.
There is also a video of the day:
