New Oz Music - Hunz, Plastic Palace Alice, Charge Group, Gung Ho, Fishing

Who's saying what

Fishing are awesome. I am constantly trying to get people to come to their gigs but they rarely do because all my friends are dickheads.

Brisbane electronic dude Hunz has just released his first ever video. The effect-heavy clip was put together by Hunz himself for the most part, and upon watching it's not inconceivable to imagine the reason for it's lengthy gestation. In it, Hunz walks around the metropolis to discover clones of himself in various poses and forms, all of which appear meticulously CGI-realised. Impressive. The track 'I Get Chills' features.

You can download some free music and learn more over at hunz.com.au, but for now watch:

You might remember Melbourne's Plastic Palace Alice from their 'Empire Falls' single a few years back; a track that came sweeping in on chorale singing, glockenspiels and Arcade Fire references long before it was de rigueur for bands to feature multi-instruments and the extraneous floor tom. Anyone who saw them live however would understand that the band couldn't be pegged so easily, veering as they did between Beatles-esque pop, Brit glam-pomp and a broader rock palette than 'indie-rock' would do simple justice to.

Well they're back with 'Heart Weighs A Tone', a winding tune that one can imagine existing in the technicolour world of your Flaming Lips' and MGMT's — psychedelica-cum-pop. It's the first taste of their new album Like A Light, out in about a months time.

We ran the interview concerning the making of this clip yesterday, but here it is again in case you missed it. Sydney band Charge Group are back with their first single from their 2012-coming follow up to their 2008 debut Escaping Mankind. 'Run' features masks, dancers and Brendan Cowell getting his dance on. The band will be touring the thing in September, but read here for the background to the clip.

'Twin Rays' by the Brisbane band Gung Ho references a bunch of currently in fashion touchstones but still somehow manages to deftly avoid having such things hold them back. Hell it's hard not to embrace it. Due — I think — to it being sure enough of itself as a pop song to avoid such pasted on categorisation. 'Gung Ho' is up on the band's bandcamp, alongside the bands album demos which suggest some more good will come from their sun-dappled indie.

Sydney production duo Fishing have just released their fourth mixtape in a series, and yeah, it's free. Download Hookz 4: Lophiiforme right here.

Here's what they get up to in their spare time:
