Paul Dempsey
- 'Out The Airlock'

The first fruit from Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey's solo effort falls from the tree as a free download. Or from out the airlock, rather.

Such is the nomenclature of the first listen of the pending album. It's a spare, nimble, acoustic track, reminiscent perhaps of the 'Anchorman' from Beautiful Sharks or one of the many and widely bootlegged solo live shows that flit about the ether of the internet. That is, reminiscent for fans of the band but a new and perhaps disarming sound for non-fans and naysayers.

Dempsey has been sequestered away on the east coast of NSW , laying down tracks for his solo album under the watchful eye of Wayne Connolly. He's currently mixing the record in LA for a release date some time mid year. He may be relaxing with giant snakes and playing the lazy international solo show, but as he told Triple J last week, it hasn't been an easy wait:

"Every record we've ever made you just track it and mix it all in one go. This was the first time I recorded all the songs at a friend's house and I had a month or six weeks between that and coming over here to mix it. So that six months of just sitting on an unfinished record I just never want to go through again, because you have way too much time to second guess yourself and worry about everything."
