A few days after a 30-second snippet of the first single from the forthcoming collaboration between Metallica and Lou Reed was released, now comes the full track. 'The View' is the first taste of the duo's collaborative album Lulu, and at over five minutes it's a...sludgefest. Reed talks pompously at length over a peculiarly flat recording that does no-one here any favours, stripping each entity of the individual identities their famous for. Meaning this is some middle-ground, unlikely to appeal to fans of either camp. Or, as it may be, anyone.
Furthermore, Hetfield vocal contributions weirdly culminate in the gruff frontman insisting, "I am the table" a bunch of times towards the five-minute mark. I feel a meme coming on.
This reminds me of when someone says, "You should meet Person X, you'd so get along with them", then you do and you kind of like them, but hanging out just feels forced and weird. It reminds me stacks of that.
