Jet are on the promo trail in the US for their third album Shaka Rock, where they hit up the David Letterman show on Tuesday night.

Jet - 'She's A Genius' live on Letterman

Not bad. Cameron Muncey looks like a cardboard cut out and I have no idea what the guy sitting behind an organ is doing - it's not playing the organ - but otherwise a pretty solid effort. Nic's vocals sound strong and Chris seems to pull focus somehow despite being up behind the drum kit. And Dave? No singer handshake but enthused enough it seems. Also that chorus is so similar to 'She's A Maniac' it's criminal.

The (relative commercial) crash and burn of their second album Shine On just might be the best thing that could've happened to Jet. Shaka Rock isn't a trailblazer by any stretch, but it does bring a fresher, looser side of the band to the fore. The antidote to Shine On's ponderings and pompousness. In most of their recent interviews the band sound energised by their fall from grace and subsequent shedding of fat. As well as - dare I say it - their new underdog status. Which for what it's worth, is where great rock bands are supposed to be.

Still, perhaps it's best left said by the first YouTube comment on the above clip:

CodyT3212: i dont care what most people say about jet. they are a fun band. its unoriginal, mindless rock n roll but i admit to liking them.
