Seattle record label
Sub Pop has been one of the most influential record labels of the last 20 years. Apart from consistently discovering and supporting new artists, they single-handedly ushered in the existence of Grunge via bands like Green River (who went on to become Pearl Jam and Mudhoney), Soundgarden and a little group called Nirvana.
Fast forward 20 years and they're still shaping the face of popular music, with records by the likes of The Shins,
Wolf Parade and most recently
Fleet Foxes (
watch their animated video) garnering widespread critical and mainstream acclaim. Throw in the smash album from comedy lotharios
Flight of the Conchords and you have a stable of talent that looks like a record stores "Best New Music" wall.
The label threw an anniversary party last weekend that saw most of the labels artists play in the lush surrounds of a Seattle park. Not to mention fly the Sub Pop flag from the city's iconic Space Needle.
Here's a bunch of pictures. Oh for it to be summer again.
