Matt Richards and Jeremy Rouse are Melbourne-based independent
filmmakers. Over the last 4 years the duo have been carting a handful
of old school Super 8
cameras and recording equipment around the country and documenting
independent bands. Paying their own way and working for free, the duo
have been slowly
crafting a unique glimpse into the underground music scene.
The result of this journey is
The Super 8 Diaries. A
self-released DVD featuring mainly ferocious live performances from 11
bands, all shot in grainy black and white and bursting with energy.
Interspersed with these clips are artist interviews covering the state
of the independent music community, motivations, and ruminations on what
motivates them to create and commit to their form of self-expression in
a market saturated with crass commercialisation and false-Idolatry.
Earlier
this year Matt and Jeremy, who go by the production name of Trainwreck
20/20, held a warehouse party in inner-city Melbourne to celebrate the
release. Many of the bands involved in the project played. There were
sausages, there were film screenings, there was rain. There were
photos. Enjoy.
The Super 8 Diaries is out now. For more information and DVD trailers go to
