Whether or not David Fincher's US version of
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo a) should even exist and b) bears any chance of standing up to the Swedish version, one thing's for sure: the soundtrack's pretty farking awesome. We've been loving
Trent Reznor and Karen O's ominous industrial-y cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song', and now there's a suitably creepy video to go with it. The clip was made by Fincher himself, and apparently features footage originally shot for the film's title sequence. It also serves as a trailer of sorts for the film… which, we have to admit, we're rather looking forward to seeing. The video doesn't seem to want to be embedded, but you can watch it via Pitchfork by clicking right
here.
Meanwhile, while we weren't hugely into
Goldfrapp's most recent album Head First, we're still fairly obsessive fans of the duo, and we're rather pleased to see that they've returned to a more restrained, reflective sound for the new song that's featured on their upcoming greatest hits record. The song's called "Yellow Halo", and it's a really pretty piece of work, capturing a similar atmosphere to some of the songs on
Seventh Tree, although the instrumentation is more electronic than most of that record. The song also features a suitably reflective video, which has a real sense of nostalgia about it — you'd swear it was shot on Super-8 or something, but in fact it was all filmed on an iPhone. The wonders of modern technology, etc.
Elsewhere, Diplo is still ploughing his Major Lazer furrow, and new single "Original Don" features a decidedly strange video that involves a series of people who look like extras from Napoleon Dynamite dancing around with nasty looking samurai swords, halberds and other esoteric bladed weapons. Why? That's a question we can't begin to answer.
And finally, here's a video from US duo CREEP — the project is a collaboration between deeply worthy DJ Lauren Flax and her compadre Lauren Dillard, and their new single features vocals from Holly Miranda and a pretty spooky sci-fi themed video from LA-based visual artist Greko Sklavounos. The clip features Miranda looking like a kind of futuristic witch house fembot that's come back from the evil dimension in Event Horizon, intercut with strobe lights and evocative, ominous imagery. Yikes.
