We've been very much enjoying the new Tom Waits record here at TheVine HQ, and since we've pretty much abandoned all hope of him ever actually touring Australia, we've had to satisfy ourselves with jumping on every other Waits-related tidbit that comes our way. In view of this, we were intrigued to learn that he was collaborating with US director Jesse Dylan — yes, son of one Bob Dylan — on the video for new single "Satisfied".
The vide hit YouTube yesterday, and while it's not exactly a big-budget extravaganza, it's still pretty great — it's shot in high contrast black-and-white, and features nothing but Waits unleashing some pretty awesome dance moves in the backyard. As other commenters have already pointed out, there's a definite similarity between this and Radiohead's "Lotus Flower" – although on this evidence, Tom's definitely got Thom licked in the dancing stakes – but actually, if "Satisfied" reminds us of anything, it's the video for Waits's own "Goin' Out West" from Mule Variations. Both feature a similar black-and-white aesthetic, they're both shot from the same low angle – and they both rely on Waits's inimitable charisma to carry what's actually a pretty simple idea.
But seriously, can someone please bring him out on tour? Please?
