Children Collide — you know,
that hair-cutting video band — are back with the first single from
Monument, their forthcoming third album.
'Sword to a Gunfight' eschews the grunge-fuzz that so defines them for more of a low-key, almost dance-song. Or, as frontman Johnny Mackay describes it, a "disco space-punk" tune that he thinks is "hilarious.
Judge:
Recorded in Melbourne by Woody Annison, Mackay says it's a theme that continues across the new record: "There's post-punk still, there's sort of Krauty-psych influence in a lot of it. It gets a bit dancey. We tried to build our own aural theme-park out of twelve different kinds of song. There’s one or two ghost trains, a few rollercoasters and even a couple of tea-cup rides. It’s always hard to describe these things from the inside but the sound and production feels very here and now to me.”
