US Indie rock legends Archers of Loaf played a secret reunion show in their hometown of Chapel Hill last night.

The band broke a thirteen year silence on Saturday evening (US time), by performing an unannounced support slot for local band the Love Language. According to reports on twitter and the Merge Records forum, the original Archers of Loaf lineup - Eric Bachman, Matt Gentling, Mark Price and Eric Johnson - played a 12-song set at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. No word yet of whether the reunion is permanent, though there is chatter on the Merge Forum that they're planning to play more shows "this (US) summer".

Archers of Loaf rose to notoriety as one third of a mid-90s indie rock triumvirate that also included Pavement and Sebadoh. Known for their spiky, often atonal but fiery pop songs, the Loaf released four records and a slew of EPs, having a college radio hit in 1994 with their seminal track 'Web in Front' from debut Icky Mettle. They toured the world (including a visit to Australia in 1996) before calling it quits in 1998 after the release of their final record White Trash Heroes. Singer Eric Bachman went on to have a successful solo career under the Crooked Fingers moniker.

Here's the setlist and some footage of the reunion show. Go loaf:
