US indie-pop collegians
Vampire Weekend, whom
spoke to us on Tuesday from somewhere in middle Germany, have announced their first ever sideshows in Australia.
The afro-inflected quartet have been winning audiences as much as dividing them with their smart, preppy approach to pop. Backed heavily by the blogging fraternity since their demo went round the traps early last year, the band hit the cover of Spin Magazine before their debut album was even released. Proving either the power of such blogs or the ridiculousness of Spin. Not sure. Fortunately for all, the album is strong and was well received.
The band are on a massive tour haul through Europe and America at the moment. With another 32 shows between now and the time they get to
Splendour in the Grass (
Get tickets?) on August 2nd, the boys should be sharp upon arrival. Or doped to the eyeballs. One of the two.
They play just two sideshows, The Metro in Sydney and The Prince Bandroom in Melbourne.
Tickets go on sale Monday 2nd June. See the
Gig Guide for details.
