triple j announce first 2012 J Award nominees
The first round of nominees for the annual J Award nominees have been announced.
Primed as being "an outstanding musical work of art; for its creativity, musicianship and its contribution to Australian music," the nominations for Australian Australian Album of the Year category are Alpine, Ball Park Music, Hermitude, The Rubens and Tame Impala. Gotye also appears in the nominees for Best Video of the Year, while The Rubens return in Unearthed Artist of the Year category.
A second round of Album of the Year nominees will be announced on Thursday 15th November. The award itself is announced at the J Awards ceremony in Melbourne on Friday 23 November. Full nominee lists below:
The 2012 J Award Australian Album of the Year nominees (first round) are:
Alpine ‘A Is For Alpine’
Ball Park Music ‘Museum’
Hermitude ‘Hyper Paradise’
The Rubens ‘The Rubens’
Tame Impala ‘Lonerism’
The remaining J Award Australian Album of the Year nominees will be announced on Thursday 15 November in Breakfast.

Alpine - Hands
Gotye - Easy Way Out
Flight Facilities - Foreign Language
Kirin J Callinan - Way II War
Bertie Blackman - Boy
Hilltop Hoods - Rattling the Keys to the Kingdom
The 2012 J Award Unearthed Artist of the Year nominees are:
Flume
The Rubens
Chance Waters
Kingswood
Thelma Plum
Previous winners of the J Award for Australian Album of the Year are Wolfmother (2005), Hilltop Hoods (2006), The Panics (2007), The Presets (2008), Sarah Blasko (2009), Tame Impala (2010) and Gotye (2011).
