Greville Records in Prahran, Melbourne are having an in-store performance this Sunday 20th April. Nothing out of the ordinary there. But when the line-up carries marquee names like Tim Rogers, Paul Dempsey and ex-Bad Seed Roland S Howard then it becomes newsworthy. If the reason behind the performance isn't enough.
The event being "Record Store Day".
Record Store Day is by and large an American initiative happening on 19th April (thus 20th April here) but one that extends to a smattering of other countries. The vague idea is that on this day all of the participating stores will simultaneously "link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally." Not sure what this means exactly but sure why not.
The Australian flag is being waved by Greville, Pure Pop, Rare Records, Arkitekt, and Hear Now in VIC, The Music Shop Burleigh in QLD and The Music Shop Parramatta and Utopia Records in NSW. Who will probably all be closed on the day to go to Greville and watch:
TIM ROGERS
LISA MILLER
CHRIS WILSON
PAUL DEMPSEY
ROWLAND S HOWARD
Doors are at 11 and things get cracking around 12.
