Australia's most useful music awards have been announced.
The Australian Music Prize, a.k.a the only music award system in Australia that grants what musicians actually need - a haircut money - has announced their shortlisted nominees for 2008.
Apocalypso – The Presets
Beaches – Beaches
Havilah – The Drones
In Ghost Colours – Cut Copy
Jungle Blues – CW Stoneking
Love Is Gone – Jack Ladder
Presque Vu – Tom Cooney
Primary Colours – Eddy Current Suppression Ring
Sympathy For the New World – Ross McLennan
It's a Melbourne-heavy list with six of the nominees springing from the southern city. Surely The Presets, their trophy cabinet already bulging at the seams, are favourites? Followed perhaps by Eddy Current Supression Ring. The Drones, having won the award two years ago, would seem unlikely to get the nod, while the inclusions from Beaches, Jack Ladder and Brisbane's Tom Cooney - while controversial - should prove too marginal. Cut Copy for the surprise?
The Australian Music Prize for 2008 will be awarded on 13th March.
