Correct me if I’m wrong, but I was of the idea that Gorillaz was, if not just an endangered species, but completely extinct. Albarn said a couple of years back that the “band” might record something again, but not under the simian moniker.

A year later, he said he was going once more into virtual band territory, even though the man who made the band live, Jamie Hewlett, told CBC news, “I’m so fucking bored of drawing those characters.” That said, he revealed their slightly new look for the cover of the UK edition of Wired magazine, which debuted this month.

They can’t escape it and will bring us a new album, called Plastic Beach, before March next year. It’ll include more guests and collaboration than ever before.

Bassist Rhys Webb of The Horrors told BBC 6 Music that singer “Faris [Badwan] wrote the lyrics and went back and worked with Damon on his own, so I haven’t actually heard the end result yet.” And he confirmed that “It was such a relaxed environment of people sharing ideas.”

Alongside the guests above, Albarn has also enlisted the vocal talents of Bobby Womack and Posdnuos from De La Soul. Should be a lark, wot?
