Splendour in the Grass line-up 2012 - Rumours

Splendour in the Grass line-up 2012 - Rumours

Who's saying what

It's three days. Just sayin'.

Lami
Splendour in the Grass may only be at the end of winter, but it’s usually around this time of year that the rumour-mongers go into overdrive. Given it’s triumphant return to Byron Bay, the 2012 edition of the potentially most expensive festival in the Southern Hemisphere is looking to be a doozy. We’ve already had slips of the tongue the boys from The Shins, but here’s the other potential candidates for the lineup and what we hope to see from them if they come.

--

Sleigh Bells

They have told triple j that they intend to be in our country twice before the year is out, and their bombastic metal-punk-cheerleader style is certainly suited to the festival, which last year had a headliner that put everyone to sleep (no, not Kanye.)

What we want to see:

Back-up dancers. Sleigh Bells have shitloads of power but with only two people on stage and only one of those actually making an effort to dance, the enthusiasm is sometimes lacking. Maybe take cues from M.I.A on how to match brutality with choreography.

--

Lana Del Ray

She cancelled her impending club tour and certainly the hype hasn’t diminished for the biggest lips this side of Angelina Jolie. Her sensuous set could go down a treat on one of the smaller stages, which would promptly be rammed with everyone who badmouthed her on the Internet three months prior.

What we want to see:

A live re-enactment of that 'Born To Die' video. Come on, they gave Kanye a cherrypicker, didn’t they?

I don't like being a hater... kidding I love it. I can't believe you suggested back-up dances for sleigh bells - what an insult. I have only seen them once (so I may be wrong) but they handled shit i.e. the music so well that the crowd should be dancing there arses off and surely not standing staring blankly at the stage. I almost puked in my mouth when you suggested they (and anyone in general) should take performance hints (or any hints for that matter) from MIA. As in one of the biggest hack dick heads in the industry; "my chain hits my chest when im bangin on the radio" that's her lyrics. Unedited. They are that fucking hopeless someone please rob and shoot her and then give her money to the third-world that she ironically says she supports.

ATD are just about the only thing that would get me to part with an island holiday's worth of cashola for a two day festival.
