Much news last night from Soundwave via Twitter. First up, contrary to rumours/hopes/fears, Rancid won’t be performing at next year’s Soundwave festival. Festival promoter AJ Maddah announced the news via his Twitter account last night in his own inimitable style: “FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL. I have yet managed not to get Rancid for SW once again. 6 years of begging and still no Rancid. shitfucksonofabitch.”

It’s not been a good few weeks for the Festival; in early May, Maddah announced that Soundwave was unlikely to return to Adelaide due to a conflict with the Adelaide City Council, who were allegedly looking to charge the same rent for the days spent setting up the festival as for show day, and also looking for a percentage from each ticket sold. It now looks like the situation may be salvageable, though - the promoter also tweeted lat night that “it looks like [Adelaide City Council] is going to work with us towards a reasonable settlement. I am hopeful, but we wont know ‘til the deal is done”. Watch this space etc.

A new venue for Sydney may also be in the works; in response to a question about whether the festival will be at Eastern Creek again, Maddah said, "I am working on 2 fronts. Addressing the problems of Eastern Creek from last year while looking for alternative venue."

And finally, in a really rather lovely gesture, Maddah offered free show tickets to a punter who helped him through the process of changing his Twitter username. Note to all tech-savvy kids: it helps to befriend promoters in cyberspace.
