Rizwan Ahmed, aka Riz MC, is best known in the UK as a promising young actor, winning glowing notices for his roles in TV drama "Britz" and Michael Winterbottom's "Road To Guantanamo".
In 2006 we heard about him being detained at Luton airport and quizzed on his politics on his way home from the Berlin Film Festival, where he'd been lauded for his role in the latter film.
Later that year his track "Post 9/11 Blues" caused a brief stir, and was banned by daytime radio. At the time he commented, "I'm not making any money out of it, but I kind of feel that I want to
give this one away. It's struck a chord with so many people that it
almost feels like it's not my song anymore."
But this year the attention on his music is definitely hotting up, and a wider circle of critics are lauding him for his meticulously crafted, socially conscious rhymes, coupled with lo-fi experimental production.
Tipped by Massive Attack, inspired by Bjork, KRS-One and Fourtet, the Oxford educated son of a shipping broker has now dropped his first commercial single, "Radar", on London's Crosstown Rebels label.
Or you can see, hear, dammit you can even read more at his Myspace.
