Following on from the announcement yesterday that they will be playing the Splendour in the Grass festival, The Polyphonic Spree prove it with sideshows.
The
cult,
clan, parishioners, group have been to Australia just once before. Known for their life-affirming, gospel style take on pop, the ensemble boast around 20 members, all led by the exuberant ex-Tripping Daisy frontman
David Koresh Tim DeLaughter. People have been known to weep at their shows. Or at least buy a shirt. Just saying. These days they've traded their robes for a black, military style uniform however, which represents the more "textured melancholy" of the most recent record
The Fragile Army. It must pose problems dressing according to your emotional output. I wonder if when they're not on tour they all dress in beige bodysuits at the office. Or Slipknot costumes for performance reviews.
They play three sideshows on the east coast at the end of July. The Tivoli in Brisbane, the Hi-Fi in Melbourne and The Metro in Sydney.
