Pnau 'Soft Universe' - Listen on TheVine Radio Player

Pnau 'Soft Universe' - Listen on TheVine Radio Player
It's been four years since we last heard from Pnau. And it's completely their own fault.

After releasing their third album Pnau in 2007, the production duo followed it up with an album under the name Empire of the Sun, featuring Sleepy Jackson singer Luke Steele. Fast forward three years, and these days Peter Moyes and Nick Littlemore are referred to "the guys behind Empire of the Sun", moreso than the ever-inventive, electronic musicians who garnered such critical acclaim their own moniker.

Now comes their fourth record, Soft Universe. It positions Littlemore on lead vocals and sees him convert an anguished break-up into singalong mega-anthems that graduate from dance to epic pop and rock. They’re huge and hugely catchy, elevating every chorus into the stratosphere. And yeah, it shows elements of the spin-off project that garnered them so much mainstream success, as Peter Mayes told us earlier in the week:

"I think the ’70s soft-rock sound, and to a certain extent the songwriting associated with that, has been an influence on us for a while now. Maybe it’s only come out in the music in the last few years. But absolutely. The last [Pnau] record was still quite clubby I guess. The Empire of the Sun record was kind of an evolution of that, with more lyrics and song structures. And then this record again is where we’ve evolved from that. You can’t help being influenced by what you’ve worked on and who you’ve worked with, more importantly."

We're pretty chuffed to bring you the new album from Pnau, Soft Universe, in its entirety for your audiological pleasure. Just click on TheVine's Radio Player (over there in the right hand column) and you're away.

Soft Universe is out Friday 22nd July.
