Sydney indie heroes Dappled Cities have gone lo-fi pyrotechnics (via Bunnings) in their new clip for 'The Price'.

There's little narrative arc, (light goes on, light goes off) - and really it's not much different to the classic video fallback of "band playing in a white room" - but there's something striking about fairy lights in the dark. May as well attach them to one's face/head/pant/guitar for an elegant video on the cheap. Made by the Kamen Brothers, of Mathematics in Sydney. As reported, the band are taking their new album Zounds on tour through August.

There's something a little sardonic and sarcastic about Philadelphia Grand Jury. I like it. Like a more perfunctory, approachable version of McClusky/Future of the Left maybe. In the clip for 'Going to the Casino (Tomorrow Night)', the band don't get their tuxes on and thrust themselves drunkenly into an evening of debauchery and gambling, as one would expect, but instead play at an outdoor kids party (see lead image). Under the banner "What could possibly go wrong!". The juxtaposition - as in their music ("Going to the casino / Tomorrow night" before "Then it hits me / That no one's in love with me") is perfect. Hairy men growling at a tea party while hepped up kids jump on their instruments, throw a pie in the drummers face and generally get appropriately buzzed.

Melbourne three piece Blacklevel Embassy have a new kinda bleak vid for the track 'Middle Eastern Distrbutor', which opens their album of late last year, Asp. It's an animated, bare bones hand drawn piece which, while relying a little too heavily on the old animated shortcut of repeating frames, suits the brute energy of the track. When not dividing their time between other projects (like Margins, SPOD and The Nation Blue) the band still play the odd vein-popping live show. Like at The Sandringham Hotel in Sydney on Jul 24 and at The Step In in Brisbane on August 15th. For example.

Sydney band Traps get more arthouse than art in their latest video for track 'Standard Life'. It's one of those one-take "fuck I hope nothing goes wrong" affairs, the camera following party guests around a house to land on different characters singing along to the song. It's a fun, accomplished little piece. Directed by Sydney filmmaker Damian Cassar.
