New music from Australia...

Whatever your opinion of Melbourne band British India, their new single 'Beneath the Satellites' from their forthcoming album Avalanche isn't going to change it.

British India
- 'Beneath the Satellites'

Sounding like it could've come from any one of the groups two previous albums, 'Beneath the Satellites' finds our protagonist lamenting their outsider status. "If everything is so fantastic / if this is our time / then why do I feel like I'm missing out?" It's a path well-trodden by singer Declan Melia. So too the tune itself, which accentuates the bands throwback lineage to '90s Australian fuzz poppers Pollyanna and the like. Question is whether the band have gone the 'safe' option with the first single so as to not alienate fans. 'Cause if this is the cream of the crop, it seems a little...mild.

Tobias Cummings
- 'Goldmine'

Singer/songwriter Tobias Cummings has been plying his troubadour trade about the nation for some time now, having already notched up one album Join the Dots (2006), recorded and produced by Tim Whitten. Cummings has now teamed up with Whitten again, for an album recorded in a house "overlooking a valley that would resonate each evening with the mating calls of migratory birds". Specific!

The first single from the as-yet-untitled record is 'Goldmine', a slowly winding, noir-ish joint that pulses with synths and distant guitar drones, production tricks that remind slightly of Radiohead circa-Ok Computer, or maybe ace Belgium band dEUS. You can download it for free from Cumming's website. The album is due mid 2010.

I mean, I know Airbourne sound like AC/DC. But this is quite incredible. A perfect mash-up of 'Back In Black' and 'It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock n' Roll)'. Throw in the chanting from 'Thunderstruck' and...this was made by a computer program right? Song Smith maybe? I don't know how they sleep at night. Just amazing.

Airbourne
- 'No Way But The Hard Way'

The single is the first taken from their forthcoming second album No Guts. No Glory, due March 8th. According to their press release they sold 250,000 plus copies of their debut Runnin Wild (2006) around the world. Young and Young - or The Darkness - should sue.
