For anyone who wondered what the news that Dave Sitek was prodding the corpse of Jane’s Addiction might mean for the future of TV on the Radio, fear not. Since 2008’s Dear Science, there’ve been various solo albums (Sitek’s dance-y Maximum Balloon, Kyp Malone’s wildly underrated Rain Machine project) but precious little detail as to when new TVOTR material might surface. But the wait is over – with little fanfare, the band released a new track today, the first taste of new album Nine Types of Light, which is apparently due out on Tuesday 12 April. ‘Will Do’ finds the band in an uncharacteristically mellow and relatively minimal mood, with Tunde Adebimpe’s soul-inflected vocals set over a lazy hip-hop beat and precious little in the way of guitars. Excellent.

Also premiering a new track this week are Dave Grohl’s Foo Fighters. ‘Rope’ is the first single from a new album called Wasting Light (light seems to be something of a theme this week), and you will doubtless be hearing it a lot on Triple J. And Triple M. And etc.

Paul Banks isn’t insisting on calling himself Julian Plenti any more and being interviewed in character, thankfully, but he is still exploring creative avenues outside Interpol. Most recently, he’s co-written a new track for Ethiopian-born US singer Kenna, which surfaced online this week and also features a cameo from NERD/The Neptunes' Chad Hugo. It... well, it certainly doesn’t sound anything like Interpol, that's for sure:

And if power-pop is your thing, you’ll doubtless be happy to hear a new track from exuberant instrument-swapping Canadian veterans Sloan, whose new album The Double Cross is out in May. The first single is called ‘Follow the Leader’, and it’s yer classic Sloan jam – excitable vocals, helluva catchy chorus.
