If you ever wondered idly to yourself, “Whatever happened to Muscles, anyway?”, you certainly weren’t the only one. For a time, circa the release of his debut record Guns Babes Lemonade in 2007, it was like he could do no wrong – and then, barely a year and a half later, it was like he couldn’t do anything right. There was the blog, the public scraps with his record company, the ALL CAPS broadsides at MySpace and various others. And then, there was nothing. For ages. His second album, Manhood, which he spent much of 2008 talking about, never surfaced. And for a good while, neither did he, the occasional gig notwithstanding.
Happily, though, he now seems to have a difficult couple of year behind him. Last year, he was reported as having seemingly buried the hatchet with Modular, and now he’s back with a new song, ‘Girl Crazy Go’. The song is taken from an EP, Younger and Immature, which is due out on Friday 29 October – there’s still no word on what’s happened to Manhood. It’s accompanied by a video that...well, it's not gonna be getting played on Video Hits any time soon, put it that way:
Muscles ‘Girl Crazy Go’
Yep, it’s Muscles’ very own
‘Smack My Bitch Up’! (On the off chance that you haven't seen it, we should also warn you that
that video is
massively NSFW.) The Muscles video was shot on location in Tokyo, and while we’re kinda reserving judgement on the song, the video’s definitely gonna make waves regardless. And either way, it’s a fine thing to see the return of one of Australia’s more mercurial talents. Welcome back, Muscles. Don’t be a stranger.
