Kanye West's 'Monster' video comes with this disclaimer: "The following content is in no way to be interpreted as misogynistic or negative towards any groups of people. It is an art piece and it shall be taken as such." Yeah and...what if your art piece is misogynistic and/or negative towards groups of people? Specifically, dead women in their underwear prior to being cut up by a chainsaw wielding Rick Ross? Or just hanging lifeless from chains in high-heels? West in sharp threads holding a women's severed head? Jay-Z rapping in front of a naked chick under couch cushions—y'know, so you can sit on her? And is that a Justin Bieber lookalike having his guts eaten out? My Beautiful Dark Twisted Pencil Case.

West's 2010 masterpiece My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy doubtlessly triumphs thanks to West's brutal investigation of the dark corners of his mind, soul and weird life. So—beyond the kneejerk "OMG won't someone think of the children/nuns!" etc NSFW-ness— the video for 'Monster' comes as more disappointing because it reveals West's twisted fantasies to be your run of the mill, soiled manga comic variety. And then...couldn't a "genius" (let alone, man) come up with something else?

Anyway. At least two things can be reiterated about this otherwise stellar track, 'Monster': Jay-Z really came to the studio with nothing here, while Nicki Minaj—who's verse steals the song; that much is known—reaffirms the clause in her contract that indicates she has to have at least one comically gratuitous butt shot per clip:
