We reported yesterday that the line-up for next year's Good Vibrations line-up had apparently
leaked. It turns out that the leaked information was 100% correct – as we reported, the roster goes a little bit something like this:
Faithless
Phoenix
Sasha
Nas & Damian Marley
Cee Lo Green
Kelis
Ludacris
Erykah Badu
Friendly Fires
Miike Snow
Fake Blood
Rusko
Sidney Samson
Janelle Monae
Mike Posner
Yolanda Be Cool
Koolism
Kill The Noise
Tim & Jean
Fenech-Soler
This line-up was confirmed by the official announcement this morning, and is now up on the festival’s
website. The festival comes to Centennial Park in Sydney on Saturday 12 February, Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on Sunday 13 February, the Gold Coast Parklands on Saturday 19 February and Claremont Showground in Perth on Sunday 20 February. Tickets are on sale now.
Leaks seems to be becoming a fact of life for festival organisers these days - locally, there's been this year's Soundwave line-up appearing online the day before it was due to be announced, aslong with the Falls leak last year, and plenty of prominent overseas festivals have been having similar problems. As with leaking records, it’s getting harder and harder to maintain any sort of secrecy in an age where one surreptitious photo can blow months' worth of promo build-up.
Still, for all that organisers might well want to just send a big “Fuck you” to the people responsible, it does seem to have got them thinking about alternative promotional strategies - Soundwave’s drip-feeding acts one at a time was working a treat until their cover got blown, and may be something we’ll see more of in the future. Indeed, Good Vibes were going for something similar with their “guess-the-artist” idea, which no doubt drummed up plenty of publicity prior to yesterday’s leak. Perhaps the days of the big announcement in lights are numbered. It'll be interesting to see.
Oh, and did we just say, “Fuck you?” Well, ain’t that a convenient segue to one of the artists we’re particularly looking forward to seeing at Good Vibes...
