And you thought the only good things to sprout from New Zealand's fertile musical fields were Crowded House, Shihad and Flight Of The Conchords - how wrong you were.

Kiwi indie punks Die! Die! Die! have thrilled audiences across the world since their inception in late 2003. The trio are renowned for incessantly touring internationally: besides their home country and we cross-Tasman relatives, their abrasive, energetic performances have drawn crowds across the UK, Europe and the US.

Their second album, 2007's Promises, Promises, was a taut display of their songwriting prowess. On that release D!D!D! favoured a style that emphasises their robust rhythm section - see: standout track 'Sideways Here We Come'  - leaving Andrew Wilson to fill the higher register with his squalling, distorted guitar and strained lyrics of betrayal, angst and miscommunication.

Ahead of a new album expected later this year comes 'We Built Our Own Oppressors', a video to fill the gap between Promises, Promises and whatever's next for the band. I'd wager that few punk bands have filmed videos atop a building at twilight, regardless of their nationality. 'Oppressors' was filed on MTV's music blog (http://blog.mtvmusic.com/2010/03/02/know-it-diediedie/) under 'Bands We Love', and while I'm not advocating that you absorb to MTV's recommendations without question, in this instance, they're completely on-point. Check out Die! Die! Die!'s rooftop performance video below.

Great though the trio are on record, their music is better understood in the live environment. Wilson is fond of getting up close and personal with crowds: he’s been known to single-handedly incite moshpits from the eye of the storm, scale speaker stacks and bars, and generally make a mockery of rock bands who favour dull stand-and-deliver stage stances. Aren’t we lucky, then, that we get to witness such mayhem first-hand when Die! Die! Die! tour Australia next month?
