You’ll never see the word funk used more prolifically than in the context of Los Angeles singer/producer/DJ/multi-instrumentalist Dâm-Funk (pronounced ‘Dame Funk’). Dude is described by venerable hip-hop/soul label Stones Throw (http://stonesthrow.com/damfunk) as his city’s “Ambassador of Boogie Funk” as well as a practitioner of “Southern Cali space funk”, “modern funk”, and “electro-funk”. He even hosts a weekly party called Funkmosphere. That’s a lot of funk. Bottom line? His belongs to the retro-futuristic variety built on sleek synths, bubbling bass, and vocodered vocals. Touring behind his high-gloss debut album Toeachizown, Dâm-Funk is making his maiden voyage to Australia in May. Live, he pairs DJ-style mixing with singing and synths, which makes for quite a sight.
