Britpop foursome Blur have scratched that seven year itch by comfirming to NME that they are reuniting for a headlining show in London's Hyde Park on July 3rd, 2009.

Despite Graham Coxon calling Damon Albarn an 'egomanic' when he walkedout in 2002, it seems the years have mellowed them enough to cash in give the fans what they want.

"It just felt it was right again," says Albarn. "It somehow feels like there's something for us to do again,we're not completely useless or pointless, we've got a reason to exist."

Still sounds like a bit of a twat then. They're really back!

In what now looks like a classic diversionary tactic, bassist Alex James only last week dismissed a reunion to Q Radio...

“There’s a part of you that always always wants to still be theArctic Monkeys or keep thinking that pop music is cool, but there comesa point when you have to throw away your jeans and your trainers andstart admitting to yourself that you’re too old for Lily Allen. Butthere’s a whole kind of other music out there … you know I’m 40 thisyear and I’m suddenly discovering Beethoven, Brahms and Bizet... You know pop music is about ‘I love youforever let’s run away together’. I’ve done that bit, I’ve run awayforever and I’m on the next thing now which is ‘look, we’ve run awaytogether, here we are surrounded by nappies. - where’s the violins?’

But you know it’s hard to let go..."

Plus, Dave Rowntree's political ambitions hit the skids this year...  so "woo-hoo!"

Expect an endless stream of speculation as to whether they headline Glastonbury 2009.
