Frankston band Eddy Current Suppression Ring has won the Australian Music Prize for their album
Primary Colours.
The four-piece take home $30,000 for their troubles. Self-funded, self-recorded, self-released...I can't think of a more deserving band.
We asked guitarist and band leader Mikey Young just
recently about the awards.
You've been nominated for Primary Colours this year.
Yeah. That's pretty nice.
The money would be handy.
Yeah.We try and really put a lid on it. Don't think about trying to win and get some cash. There's more of a chance that you're not going to win.But I dunno. Hopefully someone likes us (laughs).
It seems like the only music awards that actually make a bit of sense. In that the bands chosen so far are relevant and that they hand you theone award band's can do with. Cash.
All the winners have been pretty deserving so far. I guess it depends who...actually someone sent me a list of who's on the judging panel. Maybe I should start hanging out with those dudes. (Laughs)
Sydney solo artist Jack Ladder took home the $15,000 Red Bull Award In Recognition Of Outstanding Potential for his second album
Love Is Gone.
