"Look, I think it’s cool that these two bands can play together. I don’t think Australia has ever seen anything this metal."
So Slayer lead guitarist Kerry King told us last week. He may well be right. Though losing your voice and picking dudes out of the audience to sing for you at your Melbourne show isn't quite so metal, nor subsequently cancelling your Adelaide date as a result - from all reports thy were pretty damn metal when they teamed up with Megadeth to hit Sydney's Horden Pavilion on the 8th of October.
And you might think that long-running frictions between the two bands - specifically, between King and Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine - would be eased by, y'know, sharing a stage for the tour. Not so, said King in our
interview, explaining that despite the two bands already having completed the first leg through Canada, King was yet to speak to Mustaine.
"First time I saw him was when we were coming over here, he was leaving the aeroplane lounge and I was going in and I said ‘Hey Dave, what’s up? What has it been, fifteen years since I spoke to you?’ [Laughs] Whatever the beef was, he’s a professional stick-his-foot-in-his-mouth motherfucker."
