Part two of our interview with Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, in which we discuss their nomination for the Australian Music Prize, overseas plans and future recordings.

So the AMP award. You've been nominated for Primary Colours this year.

Yeah. That's pretty nice.

The money would be handy.

Yeah. We try and really put a lid on it. Don't think about trying to win and get some cash. There's more of a chance that you're not going to win. But I dunno. Hopefully someone likes us (laughs).

It seems like the only music awards that actually make a bit of sense. In that the bands chosen so far are relevant and that they hand you the one award band's can do with. Cash.

All the winners have been pretty deserving so far. I guess it depends who...actually someone sent me a list of who's on the judging panel. Maybe I should start hanging out with those dudes. (Laughs).

Eddy Current Supression Ring - 'Which Way To Go'

So what are Eddy Current doing next?

Not much. We've got the Melbourne Zoo show this week. Then we've got two shows in March with Quintron and Miss Pussycat from New Orleans.

You're looking after their record right? (Young runs the local label Aarght!)

Yeah we're doing a local release. And helping out with the tour and stuff. We played with them in America and it was one of the most amazing shows I've seen. If we play with them here then I know a few extra people are going to come and see them. Which is handy. Then after that we've got that Ooga Boogas (whom Young also plays with) show in April. And that's sort've it.

We're sort've in that stage again where I'm saying no to most shows. I just wanna go back to jamming and writing new songs which we did for a while at the end of last year. We got up seven new songs so wouldn't mind doubling that and getting back into record maybe August, September.

Are you going to try and go overseas again?

Ah they really want us to go to America in September but...I've been overseas the last two years, I'm not much of a traveller. I'd rather make sure we've got a record done than worrying about trying to tour at the moment. We got asked to do SXSW this year but we didn't have the time to do it.

We've got a label over there that releases our stuff so I know it would really help them if we toured. I dunno. Think I just want to have new stuff recorded before we worry about touring. A lot of people were asking about it when we went over with the Ooga Boogas last year. We (Eddy Current) have toured there before, but I think if we toured there again I think it would go a lot better.

That's when you need a manager.

Yeah maybe. There are dudes over there that have offered to help us out with that, so I might take that up next time. Make it a bit more of a holiday instead of a stress. Not that it's all bad times or anything. It's all good times.
