Just over a week ago now, we spent a muggy Friday morning traipsing through a particular hotel in Prahran, Melbourne, interviewing French pop geniuses Phoenix.

In town for one show only at Melbourne's Festival Hall that night, singer Thomas Mars and guitarist Laurent Brancowitz proved hugely amiable, cheeky and lovely gentlemen of the highest order. The pair spoke eloquently about the band's love of Australian audiences, the recording process for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, working with their friend Phillpe Zdar (Cassius), their album leaking, playing Saturday Night Live, the fantastic lighting rig currently in their show ("It's like, the sun") and what's in their head as they approach their fifth record.
