Vivid LIVE announces Janelle, Florence, Karen O in full 2012 line-up
The typically baroque-indie infused line-up makes good on its recent lineage this year: joining the already announced Sufjan Stevens, Nico Muhly and Bryce Dessner, Vivid headliners will come in the form of three strong women: Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O, on her way to stage her "Psycho-Opera" Stop The Virgens; belter Florence and the Machine, to be joined by the Ceremonial Orchestra, which features "over 40 performers" on stage (yikes); and Spazzy RnB newcomer Janelle Monae making up for her no-show at Good Vibrations in 2011, with her full Archandroid Orchestra.
Please pause for a moment to watch this piece of televisual music history:
Other notes of interest: the Australian debut of the LCD Soundsystem concert film Shut Up and Play The Hits (a term coined by the Arcade Fire's Win Butler, who uttered the line whilst guesting on stage at LCD Soundsystems farewell show); underground US hip-hop guys Danny Brown and M.E.D.; Danish trio Efterklang also being joined by an orchestra; showings from the P4K-approved Zola Jesus and My Brightest Diamond; and Aussie acts PVT, Seekae (a highlight of the recent Golden Plains festival), and returning bombast-rockers The Temper Trap.
Vivid LIVE Festival Director Fergus Linehan says of the event:
“It has been a real honour for all of us at Sydney Opera House to work with our colleagues across the Vivid Sydney season to present what we hope will be a series of unforgettable experiences. From the attention to detail that URBANSCREEN are applying to their projected sails artwork to the many new orchestrations, stage designs and collaborations that are being prepared as I speak, I’m sure Vivid LIVE will offer ten days of joy, surprise, confrontation and beauty to Sydneysiders and visitors to the city this winter.”
