Gallery - Gathering of the Juggalos 2012
Nate 'Igor' Smith is a New York photographer who for the last three years has been travelling to the annual Gathering of the Juggalos.
For the uninitiated, the Gathering of the Juggalos is a five-day festival created by Detroit-based "horrorcore" proponents Insane Clown Posse, held in Cave In Rock, Illinois, USA. As well as featuring performers like Ice Cube, the Geto Boys, Vanilla Ice and, of course, Insane Clown Posse themselves, the festival attracts thousands of fans hyped on the opportunity to don facepaint, questionable fashions and engage in copious amounts of substances. Throw in some comedy, open mics, carnival attractions, wet t-shirt contests and other eye-opening stimuli and you have the Gathering. (Watch this fantastic twenty-minute short, American Juggalo, for an insightful look into the subculture.)
Igor says, "every year it produces some of the best photos I have ever taken" and judging from his photo gallery of the 2012 event just gone, he's not wrong. See his site for more.

PS: As a primer, here's a clip of an alleged thief's care being taken care of by mob Juggalo justice.
