MGMT journeyed to Australia for the first time last December, hitching on the success of their shopping centre soundtrack Oracular Spectacular.

Anticipation was at fever pitch for the tour, with tickets selling out in seconds. Despite enjoying their sideshow, we watched the band finish their year long tour at Meredith in controversial circumstances. Controversial because a lot of people expected them to be good, and a lot of people thought they weren't. Damn you, flippant subconscious. Have you no sense of occasion?

So in pursuit of hitherto unchecked rampant speculation we noticed that MGMT have, bizzarely, just announced a show in the southern hemisphere. Only one. The boys will head down to New Zealand and play at Auckland's The Powerstation on Tuesday 21st July 2009.

As definitely not speculated, Splendour in the Grass is happening that same week in Byron Bay, on Sat July 25th and Sun July 26th.

Can Flaming Lips and MGMT play on the same bill? Will this crease ever come out of my shirt? Is it true that a certain three piece with a new album are coming as well? Will Maverick and ever truly accept Goose's death? Why do people buy those rollers that pick up Cat hair when sticky tape works ten times better?

Not sure. The cosmic ballet goes on.

PS: In other news Katy Perry recently covered 'Electric Feel'. Worth a listen if you're in traction and have finished your soup.
