The website of the Meredith Music Festival has
flickered to life. (Last week I found a fluro pink stubby holder in a drawer bought from the 9th (!) Meredith Music Festival. Coincidence? Doubt it.) Traditionally held at the start of December, this year's Meredith will mark the 20th year of the event. Not bad for an party that was started on the back of a truck:
The Meredith Music Festival turns 20 this year. Yes, she started twenty years ago - as a party for about 200 people. For context, back then Bob Hawke was PM, two-dollar notes were in circulation, the VFL had just become the AFL, Nirvana released Nevermind, and the world wide web was something for scientists. There was no 'festival scene'. Meredith has always been a pioneer, blazing her own trail, doing only what was right for the festival. To this day there are still no commercial sponsors, no commercial signage, one stage only and she's still BYO. You can still bring a couch into the Amphitheatre and leave it there all weekend. There is still only one Meredith - small enough to be intimate and big enough to be exciting. Planned yet random. Unique. Pirate. Meredith is meant to be a haven, a holiday, a pure retreat of music and nature and humankind at its finest. It started purely for fun. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The 20th Anniversary Meredith Music Festival happens on December 10, 11 & 12, 2010. Your input is welcome.

The Falls Festival has announced the opening of a subscription ballot for tickets this year. Nearly all tickets will be sold through this ballot, with only a few offered to the public. You need to sign up at
fallsfestival.com.au by August 18 to be in the 2010 Subscriber Ballot. The Soft Pack are the only band confirmed for the lineup so far, but we hear it will be VERY GOOD. (Perhaps it will
leak again?) First announcement is coming August 11.
