Laneway Festival 2013 lineup announced

Laneway Festival 2013 lineup announced

Laneway may have outdone themselves this year.

Sure it's easy to bitch and moan about festival lineups—what they're missing, what they got wrong, how lame it is that-band-you-already-saw-once are playing—and it's almost become a sport in recent times to see who's cannibalising who. (Soundwave vs Big Day Out being a recent "outspoken" example on TheVine). But with today's announcement of the 2013 Laneway festival, it gives us pause to think of how settled this summer's festivals seem to be.

Soundwave has gone for all-time status with rock titans. Big Day Out has their most assured but diverse lineup in years—the kind of thing that should see them return to form after a shaky 2011. Parklife have seemingly cornered the electro-pop market once and for all while Stereosonic's dedication to electro-dance has paid off outrageously. Elsewhere the likes of Meredith and ATP are both challenging and expertly serving their wiry niche, while Falls and Harvest have managed to capture the crossroads of mainstream and alternative. And Laneway? Laneway once again have the new bands that we'll see on all those other festivals in years to come.

At the top of a deep 2013 lineup, Bat For Lashes (main pic) will make her debut Australian appearance outside of last year's Sydney Opera House shows (review, photos). Sterling new band Divine Fits—featuring members of Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs and Spoon—will also make their Australian debut (read our recent interview with them here on TheVine). Electronic wiz Nicolas Jaar (no sideshow in Melbourne :( ) heads up a fairly nutso beats lineup which includes Flume, Nite Jewel and in-demand rapper El-P. Elsewhere, fringe acts Alt-J, Perfume Genius, and MSMR will join the more established wonder of Kings of Convenience, Yeasayer and Real Estate, alongside the current Australian buzz-creme of Chet Faker, Pond, The Twerps and The Rubens. Also, Japanroids will rule.

Here's the full lineup in annoyingly disruptive alphabetical order. Ticket presale starts Wednesday 3rd October at 9am-more details below.
