Golden Plains is this weekend. It's the best. Pavement are playing. I'm going. This story should just end right here.
Organisers have announced an extremely last minute addition to proceedings. Sneaky.
1. Lou Barlow "may" play a solo show on site. (NOT ON STAGE). Cool.
Barlow, frontman for long-time indie heroes Sebadoh as well as the hugely underrated pop-experimentalists the Folk Implosion, was already taking part in the festival as bassist for Dinosaur Jr. Organisers say Barlow "may play a solo set somewhere on the site mid-arvo Saturday. If it happens there'll be details at the festival." Where else could this happen? The Big Day Out? His guitar case ("this been opened before mate?") would be confiscated before he got inside the gate.
2. Travelling troubadour, Brooklyn wordsmith and comic book artist Jeffrey Lewis will play a little more sanctioned solo set off stage, at the Cinema. 11pm Sunday night. Between the Cruel Sea and Midnight Juggernauts then.
3. At 11am on Sunday morning, professor Hugh McDermott from the Bionic Ear Institute will explain Why Music Is Good For Your Brain. Sure to be a joy, as you suffer the effects of What Is Not Good For Your Brain.
Other notes of interest are that it's looking to be a cold, slightly wet one. And also that no cigarettes will be sold on site this year. More info over at:
