Bluesfest 2013 adds Lumineers, Counting Crows, Ben Harper solo and more

The 2013 edition of the Bluesfest festival in Byron Bay continues to grow, with yet another addition to the lineup announced today.

Joining the likes of the already announced Paul Simon, Robert Plant and Iggy and the Stooges, will be long-running folk-Americana dudes Counting Crows; Denver band the Lumineers (pictured) who have been swept up in the hype of the astonishing Mumford & Sons-led roots revival (festivalcore?) blowing up in the US; blues Hall-of-Famer Taj Mahal; young London trio Kitty, Daisy & Lewis and the return of "retired" RnB guitarist and recluse, Shuggie Otis. Along with a slew of other names, Ben Harper—already announced on the lineup in band formation—will also play a solo show on Good Friday.

Today's full announcement:

Bluesfest director Peter Noble said of today's addition in a statement: "this announcement is a pick of many genres; it’s a cross section with a very strong Blues but also Rock component which we don’t normally book very much but is multiplied in this release. There is Blues Rock, American Rock, Funk Rock, Jam Rock, Roots Rock, Indie Rock, Surf Rock – it’s hard to imagine there are that many different types of rock genres but we have them all in this announcement." He also says that "there will be one more announcement before Christmas.

Rumours ran rife on Monday that such an announcement may boast Bruce Springsteen, after ex-Painters & Dockers singer Paul Stewart tweeted that Michael Gudinski would present the Boss at two shows at Hanging Rock in Victoria over Easter. Bluesfest falls on the same weekend, running from March 28 to April 1 at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm just outside of Byron Bay.
