Arcade Fire's new video makes the experience of downloading new internet browsers rife with nostalgia.
The Canadian band's new clip for 'We Used To Wait' is a collaboration between filmmaker Chris Milk and Google's new-ish internet browser Chrome (it works in Safari too, apparently, but didn't for me). In keeping with the nostalgic adolescent themes of
their new album the Suburbs,
thewildernessdowntown.com prompts the viewer to type in the address of the home they grew up in. Once loaded, we're taken on a multi-frame journey of nostalgia, via the wonders of a stylised Google Street View and some canny 3D rendering and typeface programming.
The genius of it of course, is that no two films will ever be the same. (Unless, you know, your sibling or neighbour is having a crack at it). The resulting experience is an eerily personal one.
And now I type this in Google Chrome. Cunning.
And here's a behind the scenes look at how it was done:
