We were fairly enamored with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs third album It's Blitz!. Hell we've been fairly enamored with most things they've done, ever since they played the Meredith Music festival back in 2002 on the back of their debut Fever To Tell. Their subsequent follow up tour for Show Your Bones in 2006 saw them ditch the black vinyl for technicolour, sweeping gestures and...a shadowy fourth member on stage. (Like we said folks, this whole 'Yeah Yeah Yeahs trade guitars for keyboards' pitch around It's Blitz! is PR baloney.) Still, despite Karen O's increasingly obtuse vocabulary, we dug it:

"It's Blitz! is the sound of the band furthering these pop sensibilities; smoothing some of the edges and ditching the acoustic guitar. Which sounds dull on first glance but for one salient point; goddamn these songs are catchy. Stoked by ever clever beats from Brian Chase, weird sounds and an almost perverse interest in letting songs unfold and detour rather than repeat ad nauseum, It's Blitz! is an immensely satisfying pop record."

So Karen O and Co are coming to Australia for the Falls Festival over New Years, and they've just announced a couple of - no doubt to be hotly contested for - sideshows. One in Melbourne, one in Sydney, as is the tradition.
