In brilliant news for pallid indie types, former Kings of Convenience front man and Erlend Oye and his and his newish ensemble The Whitest Boy Alive are set to release their follow-up to brilliant 2006 debut Dreams on March 3.

It may seem unlikely for a group synonymous with disco-flecked pop and melancholic camp, but according them, the new record – titled Rules, apparently because each song details a particular rule – was tracked with no overdubs, no electronics and no effects. Oh, and they did it in a self-built studio on a beach in Mexico.  And as if that didn’t give them enough shaggy-haired cred, they’ve done away with any label affiliations, releasing Rules through their own in-house imprint, Bubbles.
