Caffeine, credit card, trucker speed, DVDs, two alarm clocks and dual internet access? Splendour tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow.
With the intense explosion in popularity for music festivals in this country, it's interesting to see how they all differ in their approach to avoiding scalpers. Seems like no matter the effort punters go to in order to secure tickets, some dickhead on an opposing coastline has 300 tickets to sell 9 minutes after the thing sells out. Savages.
Just last week
Mellen Events, who are touring DJ Armin Van Buuren, found that a day after the Perth show sold out, someone was selling tickets on Ebay from the other side of the country. Admirably, after tracking down the tickets in question via Ticketmaster, they were able to cancel them and re-release them to the slighted public. Way to go.
Last year Meredith ran a ballot and a 'plead your case' ethos if you missed out. Big Day Out tried a staggered release system. Now Splendour have eschewed the usual ticketing giants and jumped in bed with the more grass roots
Qjump.
At 9am tomorrow, beady-eyed music fans will need to create an account on the site before going ahead with their purchasing. They pose that the site has been "specifically designed to meet the high capacity on-sale demands of today’s festivals and major events."
May their IT guys get a good nights sleep.
